Baltimore Orioles vs Oakland Athletics: Odds & Analysis 4/21/2022

April 21, 2022

After securing a tight to the end win last night against the A’s by 1-0, the Orioles will be looking to secure a second win in their four-game road series in the west coast, something that of course, Oakland, will be looking to avoid, especially with how their attendance records have been floundering as of lately, with fans and the team going through a sort of early season disconnect. In order to battle the chance of falling foes against Baltimore once again, the A’s will be sending RHP Paul Blackburn, who will be looking for his second win of the season. For Baltimore RHP Tyler Wells will take the mound hoping to score not only his first win of the season but also a win to make yesterday’s victory the first in a positive streak for the Orioles.

Game Preview

When you lose a game by a blowout, blame or even valiant “mea culpa” efforts are usually thrown around with certain ease and unspoken pride and responsibility. But when you lose a game by 1-0, even more when it’s at home and you are taken by a vast majority as the favorites to win the game, then finding answers for what happened is much harder to do. That is exactly the case with the Oakland A’s after their loss last night against the Orioles.

The pitching effort was respectable from starter Daulton Jefferies, as well as the action on defense, yet the offense couldn’t stray away from falling victim to Orioles starter Jordan Lyles and his solid outing yesterday. For today if the offense can back Paul Blackburn’s start, the A’s could be looking very much ready to reverse their negative situation from last night.

It’s clear that a win tonight would come in very handy in their hopes of starting to take control of the lead in the AL West division, which is why making sure all sides of the ball are covered and working appropriately is of the utmost importance for A’s manager Mark Kotsay.

For the Orioles, credit needs to be given where credit is definitely due. Last night, Baltimore’s pitching staff took over the game and managed to secure a strong and convincing win from their side of the ball. Starting with the before mentioned Lyles and going through how the bullpen played, the Orioles showed that they might have something really good going on in their pitching department. While Baltimore is not really seen as a true threat in the AL East, being able to score a win today again and on the road might help them immensely in their hopes of picking up some heat moving forward in the season.
