Game Preview

The Houston Astros will meet the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field for the third and last game of their series. Yesterday we saw the Astros completely take over their game against the Guardians as Framber Valdez picked up the win for them with 7 innings pitched and only giving away 3 runs on 7 hits. Kyle Tucker was responsible for securing the Astros’ lead as he was 1-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBI. On the other side, Zach Plesac took the loss for the Guardians as he gave away 7 runs over the 4 innings he pitched in.

27-year-old Cal Quantrill will be the pitcher opening up the game for the Cleveland Guardians. This would be Quantrill’s 8th start of this season and he is on a 1-2 record with a 3.48 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. We last saw him throw for 7 innings, allowing only one run against the Cincinnati Reds Thursday. Against Quantrill, his opponents are on average hitting .231, which is almost the exact same average as the ones the Astros carry (.230).

The Houston Astros will send out Christian Javier as their starting pitcher. Javier is making his fifth start of the season and he’s holding a 2.87 ERA and a good-looking 11.2 K per nine innings, with an average of .200 when it comes to batting. The last time we saw Javier throw was against the Texas Rangers on Saturday, when he allowed only one run on three hits throughout six innings.

One of the strongest aspects of the Astros is their offense, they have hit 59 homers this season, which puts them in 3rd place in the rankings. The Astros’ hitters are 5th in the league when it comes to slugging percentage with .409. It’s going to be very hard for Cal Quantrill to contain such a strong offense coming from the Astros, but he’ll have to try his best if he wants to score a series win for the Guardians.
