Today the St. Louis Cardinals continue to host the Colorado Rockies for the second encounter of a three-game series at Busch Stadium after picking up a 5-4 win yesterday. St. Louis tied the game in the seventh and won on a walk-off hit by a pitch by Tyler O’ Neil in the ninth inning. Paul Goldschmidt led St. Louis with three RBI for the game, which included hitting his 29th home run of the season.
The pitching matchup is turning out to be a very interesting one. Jordan Montgomery will make his 24th start overall in 2022 and 3rd start for St. Louis. With the Cardinals, Montgomery is 2-0 and has yet to allow a run in 11 innings. On Friday, Montgomery tossed 6 shutout innings with 8 strikeouts. On the other hand, the Rockies reply back with German Marques, who is making his 23rd start of the season. Marquez holds a 6-9 record with a 5.08 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP over 127.2 innings pitched while striking out 104.
