New York Mets vs Atlanta Braves: Analysis & Preview 7/11/2022

Game Preview

Today the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves face up in their first encounter of a three-game series at Truist Park. Right now, these are two of the top teams in the league, they are just 1 game away from each other in the standings, and we are going to have a very exciting pitching matchup this game.

Atlanta comes off a recent 3-game sweep against the Washington Nationals over the weekend. Their offense looked great as they scored 16 combined runs throughout the first 2 games. The Braves are currently on a 4-series winning streak, beating the Cardinals, Reds, and the Phillies previously.

On the other hand, the New York Mets have won 6 of their last 10 games and they are currently leading the National League East standings. Their pitching rotation is one of the hottest in the MLB, and today they’ll be sending out who is arguably their best pitcher.

Max Scherzer is heading to the mound today, making his 10th start of the season. The 37-year-old pitching machine holds a 5-1 record with a 2.26 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP over 55.2 innings pitched while striking out 70. This would be his 2nd start after coming back from his injury. He looked great in his last start against the Reds as he pitched for 6 innings and allowed only 2 hits and not a single earned run.

The Atlanta Braves will answer back with Max Fried, who is making his 18th start of the season. Fried holds a shiny 9-2 record with a 2.52 ERA and a 1.02 ERA over 107.1 innings pitched while striking out 100. Just like Scherzer, he performed amazingly in his last outing. It was against the St. Louis Cardinals and he pitched for 6 innings while not allowing a single earned run.
