Game Preview

Friday night kicks off a three-game set between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago White Sox. Corbin Burnes will start for the Brewers today, while Michael Kopech will be the White Sox’s retort. Since the 2021 season, this is the first encounter between these two teams.

Milwaukee is fighting for first place in the division with the Cincinnati Reds, so every game is crucial right now. They just started a 10-game road trip. The Brewers’ recent play has been inconsistent. They finished their homestand on Wednesday by sweeping the Rockies and winning two of four against the Pirates. Against the Rockies, they scored 22 runs and are now 5-5 in their previous 10 games.

It’s good news for the Brewers that Burnes will be taking the mound. Burnes was solid in his last start, which ended in a Brewers victory, giving just two runs on four hits and four walks over four innings while striking out four Pirates. The Brewers’ ace has been outstanding once again this season. He had a 1.85 ERA in July and currently has a 3.42 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 9-6 record, and 139.1 IP to his belt.

Recently, Chicago has been performing better. They swept Cleveland in two of three games and then beat the Yankees in four games at home thanks to strong pitching. They’re having a bad season but have playoff potential for next year. They’ve won only four of their last ten games.

Despite giving up Jake Burger, the White Sox have a promising young core. Despite his health problems, 26-year-old Elon Jimenez has the potential to become a major contributor. The big hitter has power, with 13 home runs, 48 RBIs, and an OPS of.769. Jimenez has hit rock bottom this month, with an OPS of just.407.

Last time out, Kopech was dominant, allowing only two runs on four hits in 5.1 innings while earning the victory over the Guardians. The right-hander has struggled to keep his opponents in check this season, as evidenced by his 4.43 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 5-10 record, and 107.2 innings pitched. He has given up 24 home runs so far. Kopech has pitched one scoreless inning against the Brewers in his professional career.
