Game Preview

The Rangers lost to the Twins in 13 innings yesterday after blowing a five-run lead. The Twins swept them in a four-game series, and the Sox have lost nine of their last ten. The Rangers’ lead in the American League West has also shrunk.

They are now tied with the Astros for second place in the division, one game behind the surging Mariners. However, the Blue Jays are only 2.5 games behind the Rangers in the Wild Card race.

The Rangers’ season-low 36 runs scored in their last 11 games are by far their lowest total of the year. The Rangers are currently second in the majors in runs scored, third in batting average, and second in slugging percentage. When it comes to home runs and runs batted in, Adolis Garcia is the team leader.

Jon Gray will start today for the Rangers. His ERA this season is 3.76, and he is 8-7 overall. This month, Gray has been all over the place. In all of his starts, he went seven innings while allowing one or no runs. He has also given up five runs in under six innings in two of his starts. He is 2-2 this month with a 4.24 ERA in four starts.

The Mets, meanwhile, have won two straight games after dropping four in a row. Since this season has been so terrible, they appear to be looking forward to the offseason. With a new record of 60-71, the Mets have fallen to last place in the NL East, two games behind the Washington Nationals. They are currently nine games down of the Wild Card and have no realistic chance of making the playoffs.

Today, Tylor Megill will take the mound for the Mets. His record is now 7-7 and his earned run average is 5.54. Megill has had a hard month so far. He has only thrown 19.2 innings over four starts this month. He has allowed 16 runs (15 earned) in four games, including five homers.
