Game Preview

Prepare for an exciting weekend of baseball action as we gear up for new and underrated matchups, featuring the Colorado Rockies taking on the Miami Marlins. The games will kick off at 6:40 ET at LoanDepot Park in Miami, FL.
In 2023, the Colorado Rockies have endured a forgettable season, currently holding the third-lowest win percentage (.385) in the MLB as of this Thursday. Their lackluster performance can be attributed to players not living up to expectations, tough competition within their division, and a series of injuries. Key players like Kris Bryant, Randal Grichuk, and Noah Davis are day-to-day, while others like Kyle Freeland, Brendan Rodgers, Charlie Blackmon, and German Marquez are dealing with injuries. The Rockies have managed to secure only 4 victories out of their last 10 games and find themselves significantly trailing by 18.5 games behind the division leaders in the N.L. West. Their most recent game resulted in a disappointing 4-1 loss to Houston.
Similarly, the Miami Marlins have faced their share of difficulties, starting the season with a rough 0-6 record. Presently, they hold the third spot in their division with a record of 53-45, but their recent form has been challenging, managing to secure only 2 victories out of their last 10 games. In their most recent series, they were swept by the Cardinals, and Sandy Alcantara took the loss in the final game with a 6-4 effort. Alcantara pitched for 6.0 innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and two walks.

Miami’s offense has been intriguing this year, ranking third overall in team batting average (.265), but surprisingly only 23rd in total runs scored (407). This discrepancy is largely due to their lack of power, as they sit at 16th in OPS (.725) this season. Leading the charge for the Marlins is Luis Arraez, with an impressive average of .376 and OBP of .425, while Jorge Soler has been their main power source with 24 home runs and 53 RBIs, leading the team.
The Rockies may encounter challenges as they face left-handed starter Braxton Garrett. They currently rank 24th in team batting average (.232) and last (30th) in OPS (.667) against left-handed pitchers this year. Additionally, the Marlins hold an advantage in their bullpen, ranking 17th in bullpen ERA (4.14) and 19th in OPS (1.32), while the Rockies trail behind, ranking 27th in both categories (4.68 ERA and 1.46 OPS).
