Lerone Murphy and Josh Culibao will showcase an outstanding featherweight fight on Saturday July 22 at UFC Fight Night London, England. Murphy enters this fight undefeated while Culibao has only lost one fight, both will be looking to add another victory to their respective records here.
Culibao is an intelligent and technical striker who employs feints and stance switches to understand his opponent’s reactions. Quick to close distance with his jab, Culibao will alternate straight right hands and left hooks from power-side for maximum effectiveness.
He may only have one submission victory to his name, yet he is highly skilled at working off of his back. Leveraging his size, strength and good balance to score some decent strikes. Additionally, he often switches stances when striking to gain maximum effectiveness against his opponents. On the mat, he is very solid as well and has not sustained any real damage in his UFC career. He can defend against takedown attempts made by opponents while using the cage to escape any serious submission threats.
He’s an impressive defensive striker as well, able to avoid most shots with his footwork. While occasionally dropping his hands to block blows aimed at him directly, he excels at closing gaps through quick boxing combos off his back foot.
Murphy takes a much-needed respite from the grapplers, yet he still has a lot on his plate. Culibao is assertive and doesn’t hesitate to stick in the pocket and dump. He will need to exercise caution when lurking in Murphy’s area, though, as Murphy has a lot of strength. By targeting the body as well as employing his footwork to launch attacks from various distances, the British player changes up his offense efficiently.
This should be an exciting fight between two excellent fighters, making for an entertaining viewing experience. The victor will have an opportunity to move up in rankings and secure a title shot. They may face stiff competition along the way but have proven they can compete with some of the top competitors in their division.
