The Los Angeles Angels take on the San Diego Padres on July 3, 2023 at Petco Park for the first game of a three-game series between them.

The AL Wild Card race, which just the Orioles appear keep on dominating, has the Angels starting this series two games behind. If the Angels’ offense can continue to score, the path can be cracked for them to slink in. A team that ranks sixth in runs scored per game is led by Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. Los Angeles has risen to 4th in slugging percentage and sixth in on-base percentage thanks to walks and home runs. There isn’t much to be unhappy about for Anaheim at the plate, though they could benefit themselves a little more by adopting an aggressive strategy on the bases.
Monday night will mark Jaime Barria’s 6th start and the eighteenth overall game of this season. The righty enters this game with a mere 2-3 record but a 2.92 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. Recently, however, the White Sox brutalized him, scoring 5 earned runs over 3.0 innings on 7 hits and 2 walks. Barria was charged for the 11–5 loss. In the previous 5 matches he’s thrown in, Los Angeles currently sits at 4-1.
