The Los Angeles Angels’ started off horribly on Monday when they were blown out 12-0 in game one of the series. The Angels’ playoff hopes are diminishing as they are now two games under .500; unless they can pull off a miraculous turnaround in the next two months of the season, they will not make the postseason. The Angels are set to go with RHP Lucas Giolito, who has a 7-8 record and a 4.37 ERA in his career.
The Angels had one of their worst games of the season on Monday when nothing went right. Following a period of relative calm, the ‘Halos managed only one hit as a team, ultimately going scoreless.
Los Angeles’s position in the American League playoff race is rapidly deteriorating, so the Angels simply cannot afford another offensive performance like the one they just had. If the Angels want payback, they’ll need to increase their concentration at the plate with the bats.
Later today, with a commanding lead of 3.5 games over the second-place Houston Astros in the American League West, the Texas Rangers will try to continue flexing their might. The Rangers are unquestionably on a roll after winning 11 of their last 13 games. Unfortunately, southpaw Jordan Montgomery will earn the Tuesday start; in 23 appearances this season, he has posted a 7-10 record with a rather decent 3.38 ERA.
The Rangers’ wealth of talent was further increased during the trade deadline, and they already had a deep roster to begin with. Texas has made a number of moves, including the addition of lefty Jordan Montgomery, who is scheduled to pitch for the team tonight.
Montgomery, a former Yankee and Cardinal, was dealt a major setback in 2018 when it was announced that he will require Tommy John surgery. About five years later, Montgomery has made quite the return, becoming a mainstay in the Rangers’ starting rotation.
