This four-game series between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago Cubs will begin on Thursday July 6th at American Family Field in Milwaukee. The Cubs are looking to take the series in this game. They lost the first game 8-6, but managed to win game 2 and 3, 7-6 and 4-3 respectively.
The Chicago Cubs rebounded to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 on Wednesday evening thanks to a 3-run 9th inning against All-Star reliever Devin Williams and a 2-run double by Mike Tauchman. Williams was welcomed by Cody Bellinger who hit a single to center field in the 9th. Jared Young hit a single to 3rd base after Christopher Morel failed to advance. A groundout allowed both men to move forward and Tauchman tied the score at 3 with an opposite-field double to the left field. By reaching on a throwing error by 3rd base Brian Anderson, Nico Hoerner gave away the winning run for Tauchman.
Despite his outstanding statistics for the entire season, Marcus Stroman has had trouble over his past 2 starts this season. During his last two 9-inning starts, he gave up 11 runs, 8 of them earned.
The Brewers have had trouble utilizing home field advantage regardless of hosting one of the sport’s weakest away teams this week. Due to back-to-back defeats, they must prevail on Thursday in order to preserve a tie in this 4-game series. The Brewers certainly don’t want to keep losing ground in the NL Central rankings, as they currently trail the Reds by 2 games going into this game. Milwaukee is going to be left wondering why they’ve suffered this week given that they had a winning record at their own stadium in their past 10 matches, particularly if they go on to lose this one.
On Thursday, Freddy Peralta is scheduled to make his 17th career start. In his previous start against the Pittsburgh Pirates, he gave up 3 runs on 3 hits, 2 walks, and 8 strikeouts.
