The Ole Miss Rebels and the Tulane Green Wave will kick off their 2023 campaign on September 9th at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans.
The previous season, Ole Miss started 7-0 but faltered down the road, finishing with a discouraging 1-5 record in its last 6 matches. With the addition of Pete Golding as the squad’s defensive coordinator and one of the SEC’s top offenses, headed by running back Quinshon Judkins, coach Lane Kiffin seeks to prevent a repetition of the previous year’s disaster. Newcomers Spencer Sanders and Walker Howard pushed quarterback Jaxson Dart in the spring, and it is anticipated that the conflict will persist in the autumn. Defense must get better, and the players have to believe that Dart can enhance the passing game in 2023. If those two areas perform well, Ole Miss may win more games than 8 the previous season.
Tulane is the preseason conference frontrunner after increasing its victory total by two in 2021 to twelve in 2022. The Green Wave’s standing as the side to beat in the AAC is almost assured by quarterback Michael Pratt’s willingness to return for another campaign. First-team All-AAC center Sincere Haynesworth and 3 other returning starting linemen will be in front of Pratt, who tossed for 27 touchdowns and rushed for 10 more.
Fritz’s Green Wave are in a better position to win the AAC championship for a 2nd consecutive year as a result of Cincinnati, UCF, and Houston switching to the Big 12. Even with Spears and a few other important receivers gone, the offense should still be productive behind Pratt. With contests against South Alabama, Ole Miss, and Southern Miss, the non-conference schedule is challenging. But with UTSA visiting Yulman Stadium on November 25, New Orleans should once more be on the AAC Championship route.
