The Nationals have been on a roll as of late. They are almost out of last place in the NL East after winning seven of their last 10. It was widely anticipated that Washington would finish in the bottom five of the league.
Unfortunately, they have the seventh-worst record in the league right now. That’s not fantastic, but it’s better than what a lot of us were anticipating. Washington defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in a three-game series over the weekend. That means Washington has won three consecutive series, counting the weekend sweep. Washington is 12-6 in the month of August.
Josiah Gray‘s last three starts have been rough, despite his strong road record. Gray’s ERA in those starts is 11.12; he has allowed 15 hits in just 11 1/3 innings while walking 8 and striking out 12. The Yankees would be wise to take advantage of the fact that Gray has clearly been struggling recently.
The entire season, the Yankees have failed to live up to expectations. They’ve had some injury problems and haven’t been doing well. The New York Yankees have dropped eight in a row and are now four games under .500.
The Yankees lost nine in a row and were swept by the Atlanta Braves and the Boston Red Sox during that stretch. After going 1-9 over their previous 10, their playoff hopes are now less than 1%. The Yankees had a losing record in August, which ties them for worst in the league.
The Nationals will be facing Carlos Rodon, who has had a rough go of it so far in 2018. He hasn’t started since August 6th, and only one of his previous starts was successful. Rodon has walked 18 batters in 27 innings this season, while striking out only 25. He has also allowed 23 hits. He has given up 23 hits, 8 of which have gone for home runs. Rodon presently has a WHIP over 1.50 and an ERA over 7.00.
