St. Louis Cardinals vs Atlanta Braves: Picks & Predictions 7/07/2022

Game Preview

The St. Louis Cardinals have been struggling a lot against the Atlanta Braves for the past few games, and today they’ll have their final shot at redemption in their 4th and last encounter.

The Braves have scored a total of 16 combined runs against the St. Louis’ measly 4. But this isn’t something new for the Cardinals, in fact, they have scored 3 or fewer runs in 6 of their last 7 games. It’s really strange to see the Cardinals in this condition mostly because they have Paul Goldschmidt in their lineup, who has currently 65 RBIs under his belt, which ties him for 2nd in the major leagues.

Pitching is another issue for St. Louis, as they have been struggling to contain the enemy offense this season so far. Today, the rookie Matthew Liberatore will make his 6th of the season. His numbers haven’t been looking great, which might be a concern for the Cardinals this game.

Liberatore carries a 2-1 record with a 5.66 ERA and a 1.79 WHIP over 20.2 innings pitched. After being recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Saturday, he went up against the Phillies and he allowed 5 runs on 7 hits while striking out 3 across 2.2 innings. Today he’ll be going up against another MLB rookie.

The Atlanta Braves give Spencer Strider the nod for today’s game. Strider is making his 8th start and 19th appearance of the season. He holds a 4-2 record with a 2.87 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP over 59.2 innings, numbers that look much better compared to Liberatore’s.

If you are St. Louis, you wouldn’t be worrying that much about Strider. The thing about the Braves is that they rank 1st in slugging percentage with .443, while Marcell Ozuna and Eddie Rosario both hit a home run in yesterday’s victory
