Game Preview

Today the St. Louis Cardinals are heading to American Family Field to start a 4-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers while both teams are holding a 38-30 record tied for 1st place in the National League Central division. The Cardinals lost the last encounter of their 3-game interleague series against the Red Sox on Sunday, but overall, they are 6-4 in their last 10. On the other hand, the Brewers swept Cincinnati 3-0 last weekend, and they are 5-5 in their last 10. This will be one of the most exciting matches of the week as the season series between these rivals is tied 4-4, though the Cardinals have a +3 run differential.

The Milwaukee Brewers will send out Corbin Burnes for his 14th of the season. He is on a 4-4 overall record with a 2.52 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP over 78.2 innings pitched. A few weeks ago he started against the Cardinals and the Brewers picked up an 8-0 win and Burnes had 7 scoreless innings and gave away 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 11. The 27-year-old righty is going to have a huge responsibility in today’s game as the Cardinals offense could be considered a bit better than the one Brewers bring.

Miles Mikolas will be making his 14th start of the season for the St. Louis Cardinals. Mikolas has picked up 5 wins and 4 losses so far while holding a 2.62 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP over 82.1 innings pitched. He is coming off an appearance on the mound against the Pittsburgh Pirates where he picked up his 5th win and threw 8.2 hitless innings before having his no-hitter broken up down to the last strike. The 33-year-old pitcher is backed up by a strong offense as Paul Goldschmidt, who is the current favorite for NL MVP, is currently hitting .344 with 16 homers and 58 RBI.
