Texas Rangers vs Philadelphia Phillies: Preview & Odds 5/04/2022

May 4, 2022

The Texas Rangers will be out on a mission today, on two missions actually. One will be to continue riding on their 3-game winning streak when they try to repeat yesterday’s performance against the Phillies. The other will be to finish a valuable road interleague series sweep against Philadelphia in the last of their two games.

For Texas LHP Martin Perez will carry with the responsibility of trying to bring their team to victory from the pitcher’s mound while for Philadelphia it will be RHP Zack Wheeler who will be looking to stop Texas on its tracks and avoid having the Phillies take another loss at home which could hurt them in trying to stay above the middle in the NL East division.

Game Preview

A rare sight and look for the Texas Rangers is what they are going through right now as they get ready to sweep the Phillies on the road in Philadelphia and extend their present three-game win streak to four. Yesterday’s effort by the team, especially the bullpen is exactly what this Rangers team has been looking for all season long to start picking up the pace.

On offense, the bats answered with a couple of home runs, on defense a solid effort was made but above all, the help coming from the bullpen helped secure Texas a win, especially in the 7th inning when reliever John King stepped up and got the Rangers out of a rut that could’ve perfectly well caused them the game.

So, what’s next for the Rangers? Simple, trying to emulate the positives from the last three wins they’ve scored and start making this team the well-oiled machine it was supposed to be from the get-go. They have the talent, especially at bat with guys like Cory Seaver, Adolis Garcia, Nathaniel Lowe and Marcus Semien, so now it will be up to starting pitcher Martin Perez to hold the fort down against Philadelphia for Texas to roll on to their next series with a four-game win streak as their main force of impulse.

For the Phillies, who just happened to suffer a combined no-hitter against the Mets on Friday of last week, the idea of letting another game against the Rangers slip out of their hands because of faulty playing is definitely not an option.

Philadelphia needs to pick up the slack against Texas today, especially from the plate, because right after this series with the Rangers comes the Mets for a grueling four-game series that could end up shaping Philadelphia’s immediate future in the NL East very quickly and not in the best way possible. So a win for starter Zack Wheeler will definitely be a must have today.
