Game Preview

The Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies didn’t disappoint in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals. At the end, the Warriors snatched home court advantage with a 117-116 victory.

Steph Curry returned to the starting lineup and finished with 24 points. However, it was Jordan Poole, coming off the bench, who stole the show with 31 points. Otto Porter Jr. and Kevon Looney also took a step forward after the Warriors lost Draymond Green to a flagrant foul.

As for the Grizzlies, Ja Morant (34 points) and Jaren Jackson (33 points) had a monster game. Morant finished one rebound away from a triple-double. He has been leading the way since the first-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Memphis must win Game 2, scheduled for tonight at FedExForum, where the Grizzlies own a 32-13 record. Even with Andre Iguodala and James Wiseman out due to injury, the Warriors come in as the NBA betting favorites by 2 points (-110). Curry and company are 49-19 when playing as the favorites.

Golden State deserves to be the favorites. Poole has a great explanation for it:

“Being able to put the defense in a lot of rotations, the way that they’re trying to guard us, it’s going to be really hard to guard all three of us the same way when we’re out there together. It’s just being able to make the right play, and get these other guys good looks,” he said.

That doesn’t mean the Grizzlies don’t have a chance. After all, they’re 5-1 against the spread in their last six games when playing at home against Golden State. Also, keep in mind that Memphis also lost Game 1 against the Timberwolves and then bounced back.

The thing is that Steven Adams, Santi Aldama and Killian Tillie remain out due to injury. As if that wasn’t enough, Desmond Bane is listed as questionable.
