Phoenix Suns vs Dallas Mavericks: Predictions & Analysis 5/12/2022

Chris Paul’s experience has been crucial, but there’s no doubt that Devin Booker’s scoring ability it’s the main reason for the Phoenix Suns to be one victory away from advancing to the Western Conference finals.

Booker took over and led the Suns to a 110-80 victory in Game 5. Now, Phoenix leads the series 3-2. Booker was followed by Deandre Ayton, who scored 20 points and added nine rebounds. Cameron Johnson had a great game coming off the bench with 14 points, seven more than Paul.

“Book has a shot-making ability that’s unique to very few people and in those moments when we need him to settle us down. Sometimes it’s scoring that can settle you down,” head coach Monty Williams explained.

Regarding the Mavericks, nothing changed. Luka Doncic was the team’s top scorer with 28 points. He also grabbed 11 rebounds. Jalen Brunson woke up and finished with 21 points, but clearly it wasn’t enough.

“Home-court advantage is a real thing. Respect to both fan bases for making it difficult for the away team,” said Brunson.

He’s not wrong. Both teams have only won when playing at home. Dallas won Game 3 (103-94) and Game 4 (111-101) at American Airlines Center, the venue in which Game 6 will be played. Despite that fact, Phoenix (-2) dominates the NBA lines. It seems that playing on Thursday suits them. The Suns are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games played on a Thursday.

If Dallas wants to force Game 7, Brunson and company must help Doncic a lot more, especially on offense. Even if that happens, you can expect another close battle, enough for the following trend to continue: the total has gone under in four of Dallas’ last five games when playing at home against Phoenix. This time, the total is set at 212 points.

Tim Hardaway Jr. (Mavericks) and Dario Saric (Suns) remain out due to injury.

Game 7, if necessary, is scheduled for Sunday in Phoenix.
