On November 15th, the UCLA Bruins (2-0) take on the Long Island Sharks (0-2). Pauley Pavilion will host the game.
The Sharks (0-2) had a poor start to the season, losing 82-67 to Air Force the previous Friday at home and 88-53 to Pepperdine on Monday. In its opening two matches, Long Island has allowed 45.2% of its 3-point shooting, extending its losing run to ten matches stretching back to the previous campaign. The Sharks enter UCLA ranked Number. 348 in Division I for modified defensive efficiency. Rod Strickland, a former NBA player, is coaching Long Island for the second season. The sons of Strickland, Tai, who competed at Georgia Southern the previous year, and Terell, who transferred from James Madison, are on the roster this campaign. Making his Long Island debut on Monday, Tai Strickland scored ten points. After two matches, Terell Strickland has scored 21 points, trailing only R.J. Greene’s 26 points. In terms of scoring with 13 points per contest and rebounds with 8.5 per match, Greene tops the Sharks.
UCLA hosts Long Island to Los Angeles on Wednesday to wrap up a three-game homestand to start the campaign. In a non conference game against Lafayette, UCLA (2-0) overcame a 9-point hole to win 68-50 last Friday thanks to a 34-7 surge. 4 of the Leopards’ turnovers, including 4 steals by Lazar Stefanovic, allowed the Bruins to score 19 points. 3 Bruins scored in double figures, including Stefanovic, who finished with 11 points. Dylan Andrews, the starter, and Sebastian Mack, the backup, both had 18 points apiece. Adem Bona ended scoring only 6 points from 1-of-7 shooting versus Lafayette after starting his campaign with 28 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 shots blocked in UCLA’s 75-44 victory over Saint Francis on November 6th.
