UTSA Roadrunners vs Utah Utes: Predictions & Analysis 12/13/2022

Game Preview

The Utah Utes are playing host to the UTSA Roadrunners on Tuesday night and they will be looking to extend their four-game winning streak. On the other hand, the UTSA Roadrunners are aiming to bounce back from a disappointing defeat to the New Mexico Lobos. What makes this matchup so interesting is that these two teams have only met once, and it happened back in 2009.

The Utes were predicted to finish only 10th out of 12 teams in the Preseason Media Poll, but they are looking way better than that early on. Utah is currently on a four-game winning streak after picking up a 99-58 win over Jacksonville State. Lazar Stefanovic, a 6’7 sophomore, dropped 20 bomb off the bench, while Branden Carlson managed to score 19 points of his own with 8 rebounds in just 23 minutes.

Now looking at the other side, the UTSA Roadrunners do have a positive record, though they are rated No. 322 out of 363 Division I teams. They have won just two games against non-Division I teams and have lost three out of their last four matches after losing to New Mexico 94-76 as the heavy underdogs. DJ Richards led his team with 20 points under his belt in the defeat.

It’s hard to not worry for the Roadrunners heading into this game. UTSA has played one of the weakest schedules but still ranks in the bottom of the league in terms of scoring, FG percentage, 3P percentage, and FT percentage. Meanwhile, Utah is 15th in the county when it comes to their defense, and fourth in both defensive FG and three pointers percentage.

These two teams look incredibly different as Utah has managed to score at least 81 points in three of their last four matches and is 15th in the nation posting a 40.3% 3P against a more challenging schedule. UTSA is in need of a big game out of Jacob Germany in this game. Unfortunately for them, Germany has been limited to single digits in four of the seven games against Division I programs.
