The Texas A&M Aggies will play their first SEC matchup against the Arkansas Razorbacks in a top-25 matchup at home this Saturday. Can Arkansas’ defense get to Aggie quarterback Max Johnson? We’ll get to find out in one of the most exciting games of the week.
The Texas A&M Aggies made the right call by going with Max Johnson over Haynes King at quarterback. Johnson only went 10-for-20 against Miami last week but threw one touchdown without interceptions. As he gets more reps for his new team, he’ll produce more yards down the field.
The Aggies haven’t been incredible with their pass protection, which has made it difficult for their quarterbacks. But the wide receiver core for Texas A&M has also been weak to begin the year. The team looks like a work in progress when they should’ve been a championship contender.
On defense, the Aggies have struggled in coverage and haven’t been all that great against the run, either. In the run game, teams have averaged 154.3 yards against Texas A&M. Meanwhile, in the passing game, teams only average 147.3 yards. Still, the coverage has been weak, and the pass rush has been average at best.
On the other hand, Arkansas couldn’t stop Missouri State last week and even trailed at halftime at home. But throughout the season, Arkansas has averaged over 500 yards on offense, and they’ve held teams to 421 yards per game. The offense has been dominant in the passing game behind KJ Jefferson.
The Razorbacks already have two massive wins against Cincinnati and South Carolina and scored 31 or more points in each of those two games. Jefferson has thrown for 770 yards and six touchdowns. He also has just one interception and is capable of making plays with his legs. Raheim Sanders has also come up big for Arkansas on the ground. He’s earned 440 yards in three games with three scores.
