As for Purdue , currently with a total 8-4 and 6-3 in the Big Ten West, has not played before against a team like Michigan who focuses on rushing plays. Even if Corum has not recovered for Michigan, Donovan Edwards is still available to fill his shoes, rushing for 216 yards via 22 carries and taking 2 touchdowns against Ohio State. The one weak side was quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who was not efficient with 12 completed passes out of 24.
The Boilermakers have given 218 passing yards per game , as the coverage back unit doesn’t have an above average talent outside of Cory Trice.
Taking a look at Purdue’s offense, their most important piece is playmaker and wide receiver Charlie Jones, with 97 total catches on 138 chances with a result of 1,199 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Michigan defense is looking quite nice, even if O’Connell and Jones can attempt some creative chances, they will ultimately have a hard time pushing forward, with the only hope being some minimum time points.
The only true factor in this game that could change the ultimate result is the Purdue run defense. Currently it allows less than 4.0 yards per carry, if they are able to contain this rushing attack side captained by Edwards, the game is basically over.
As such this time around we will lean towards a Michigan win.
