Notre Dame Team Preview

Sam Hartman, a transfer from Wake Forest, is a huge quarterback upgrade for Notre Dame. Hartman has a powerful offensive line protecting him and a plethora of capable running backs at his disposal. Gerard Parker’s primary mission is to replace Michael Mayer at tight end by finding talented playmakers to bolster the receiving corps.

There are also outstanding problems on defense that Head Coach Marcus Freeman needs to address, such as how the team reloads at defensive end and safety in the secondary. The Fighting Irish’s final standings position will be determined by the results of three games: one at Clemson and two against Ohio State and USC at home.

Sam Hartman is the most statistically successful quarterback for the Irish since Brady Quinn set the school record for passing yards. Hartman’s five years of excellent production at Wake Forest resulted in 12,967 passing yards and 110 touchdowns.

The new offensive coordinator, Gerad Parker, has a talented bunch of running backs to work with, led by All-Pro Audric Estimé. The loss of Logan Diggs as a transfer after spring practice was a blow to the backfield. Joe Alt, the left tackle, and Blake Fisher, the right tackle, are also first-round picks. The offense’s safety blanket, tight end Michael Mayer, decided to pursue a career in the NFL.

There are some worries about the front seven after losing three experienced players, including the school’s all-time sack leader Isaiah Foskey. The Irish played well for the majority of the season in ’22, but they collapsed in the red zone and allowed too many touchdown drives.

The Irish have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs because of their high-powered offense and talented quarterback. The Irish, on the other hand, have a weak defensive line whereas the other teams winning titles have strong ones.

The team will host games against Ohio State and USC and travel to Clemson for the second consecutive season. The Irish can make a run if they take two of those three and don’t lose any games against an ACC schedule that is tougher than normal.
