In Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Rebels (10-2) and Nittany Lions (10-2) will square off in this year’s Peach Bowl on December 30.
On November 24, Penn State defeated Michigan State 42-0 to end their season. They produced a season that was great by almost all standards, save for the fact that they lost both of their 2 most important games. They triumphed over eventual Big Ten runner-up Iowa and Maryland. Drew Allar, the quarterback, had almost 2,300 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and just a single interception by the end of the season. In nine of its twelve games this season, Penn State has scored thirty points or more, thrashing nearly every opponent other than Michigan or Ohio State. Ole Miss’s poor defense will be the target of the Nittany Lions’ large offensive output, and the Rebels are going to have to put together a strong offensive day to keep up with Penn State’s output.
On Nov. 23, Ole Miss defeated Mississippi State 17-7 to end its regular season. Under head coach Lane Kiffin, the Rebels’ last New Year’s Six bowl game resulted in a 21-7 loss to Baylor in the 2021 Sugar Bowl. They may not have beaten Georgia and Alabama, the 2 teams that recently squared off in the SEC Championship, however they did elevate their standing with a significant victory over LSU in the middle of the season. They managed to sneak past Auburn and Arkansas to have a strong season finale. 20 touchdowns, 5 picks, and over 2,900 yards of passing were completed by quarterback Jaxson Dart. Throughout the previous ten years, the Rebels have won ten games three times, but they have never been able to overcome the disappointment of winning an 11th game. Kiffin and his squad are undoubtedly thinking about getting past that hump.
