While Deuce Vaughn’s presence in the backfield has helped the Wildcats’ reputation for a potent rushing assault in years past, this year’s team appears to be a different story.
When the Wildcats’ passing game is struggling, they have leaned on the combo of DJ Giddens and Treshaun Ward to carry the ball and advance the chains. Although K-State faced a strong front seven against Troy in Week 2, Giddens will need to be more efficient against Missouri in order for the Cats to win. Giddens has rushed 27 times for 180 yards this season.
In spite of widespread speculation about K-State’s cornerbacks entering the 2023 season, the development of sophomores Jacob Parrish and Will Lee has cast doubt on that assumption. When looking back at past games, Parrish is a player who consistently shows flashes of brilliance.
When will the offensive line figure things out? Conor Riley’s group has been struggling to find a replacement for the injured Christian Duffie, despite preseason claims that they would be the top offensive line in the Big 12.
Eli Drinkwitz, head coach of the Missouri Tigers, is not in the best position. Even though the opinions of Missouri Tigers fans have varied over the previous few seasons, the university may decide to look for a new head coach in 2023 if the Tigers have another dismal season.
While many in the SEC would like to pretend that the success of former rivals Kansas and Kansas State under coaches who are ideal for their respective programs doesn’t bother them, Drink and his team may feel like the odd man out among their former rivals ever since making the switch to the SEC 11 years ago.
Brady Cook, Keep an eye on this player. It’s no secret that Cook had a rough outing in Manhattan during the Tigers’ 40-12 defeat to the Wildcats in 2022, but with a chance to make amends on the table at home on Saturday morning, I’m confident that the Missouri native will be looking forward to getting back on the winning track.
