Game Preview
On Saturday, college football fans may tune in to the Carrier Dome to see the Army Black Knights take on the Syracuse Orange. Army just played UTSA last Friday, so they’re fresh off a game. The Knights won by eight points, improving their record to 2-1. Syracuse’s most recent opponent was Purdue. The final result was a 15-point win for the Orange, maintaining their perfect record. It will be interesting to watch how this battle pans out, but it looks like we can expect a run-first, clock-control type of game.
The Knights led LA-Monroe 10-3 heading into the final quarter of their season opener, but ultimately fell short, losing by a score of 17-13. In the loss, Army turned the ball over five times (3 fumbles, 2 interceptions). The Knights evened their record with a 57-0 rout of Delaware State in game two.
Army finished with 525 yards of offense (238 rushing, 213 passing). Last week, the Black Knights faced off against UTSA and came out on top, 37-29. They scored in each quarter and held the Roadrunners at bay. Bryson Daily, an Army quarterback, passed for 133 yards and a touchdown. Hayden Reed ran for 107 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, and Noah Short led the team in receiving with three receptions for 68 yards and a score.
On the other side of the field, Syracuse breezed through Colgate 65-0 in their season opener with 677 total yards of offense (406 passing) and 36 first downs. The second game was a blowout victory, 48-7 over Western Michigan. There were no turnovers and 26 first downs for Syracuse in their victory.
The Orange were dominating last weekend’s game against Purdue, leading 21-7 at halftime. The Orange were able to hold on to their 35-20 lead thanks to 14 fourth-quarter points. Quarterback Garrett Shrader threw for 184 yards and an interception, while he also rushed for 195 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries. The leading rusher was Damien Alford, who gained 70 yards on four receptions.
