The Miami Hurricanes will play No.12 North Carolina Tar Heels during ACC action on Saturday evening when they travel to North Carolina. The Hurricanes’ catastrophic loss to Georgia Tech last week caused them to drop out of the unbeaten league. With an easy victory over Syracuse, the Tar Heels raised their record to 5-0. Miami was on the losing end of perhaps the biggest setback in its recent history when, after fumbling with just under thirty seconds left, Georgia Tech scored the game-winning touchdown to end Miami’s perfect record.
The Hurricanes lost to Georgia Tech 23-20 at home on Saturday after making 5 turnovers. With just a few seconds left, the Hurricanes attempted to run out the time before they fumbled the quarterback-running back interchange, losing the game 20-16. Georgia Tech received the ball, and with only one second remaining, a 44-yard touchdown throw surprised the sold-out crowd and dropped the Hurricanes to 4-1 on the year.
Miami’s Tyler Van Dyke, who completed 24 of 26 passes for 288 yards and a touchdown, but tossed 3 passes that were intercepted. RB Don Chaney Jr. got 103 yards on the ground, and Henry Parrish Jr., another running back, had 52 yards and a score.
The North Carolina Tar Heels trounced Syracuse 40-7 at home on Saturday to maintain their perfect record. The Tar Heels improved to 5-0 to open their campaign for the initial occasion in 26 years and are currently 2-0 in ACC play as they established a 27-0 halftime advantage and glided from there.
Drake Maye, the quarterback of the team, had another impressive day. He threw for a season-high 442 yards, with 280 yards in the opening period. Mayes rushed for 55 yards and another touchdown in addition to throwing 3 touchdown passes during the contest. The Orange were shut out in the initial half and were limited to only 11 first downs overall thanks to North Carolina’s strong defense. The Heels limited Syracuse to 221 total offensive yards in total.
