On Saturday, November 25th, the Florida Gators take on the Florida State Seminoles at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
The Florida Gators have dropped their last four games and are at 5-6 on their current campaign. This season, they need to prevail in one more game to qualify for the bowl. With nearly 30 points per game, the offense has contributed to the team’s ability to stay in games, while the defense has proven prone to mistakes, giving up 28. Furthermore, the defense has given up an average of 42 points per game over the past four games versus some of the hardest sides in the SEC. In the final game, the Florida Gators lost to the 9th-ranked Missouri Tigers due to a field goal that was kicked with seconds remaining. During the contest, the Gators rushed for 261 yards. Graham Mertz had a strong passing game as well, passing for 183 yards alongside two touchdowns. Mertz, however, suffered a collarbone injury so he will miss the entire season.
The Atlantic Coast Conference Championship game between Louisville and Mike Norvell’s fifth-ranked Seminoles is scheduled for next week. They have an 11-0 record and have been discussed for the National Championship the entire season. Unfortunately, they will be left with a lot to demonstrate when they play against the Gators to re-enter the debate because of their standout quarterback, Jordan Travis, suffering a season-ending injury. Tate Rodemaker, a fourth-year backup quarterback, will handle quarterback duties this weekend. Throughout his collegiate career, Rodemaker has successfully completed 56 of 93 passes, or a 60% completion percentage. He completed 20 of 31 passes in 2023, accounting for 376 yards at an average of 12.1 yards per reception (64.5%). He has also thrown five touchdowns and zero interceptions. Against Northern Alabama last week, he completed 13 of 23 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns. He must continue to minimize his errors this weekend versus Florida, as the Seminoles will depend on him.
