After defeating the Tampa Bay Bucs in Week 7, the Atlanta Falcons are now in exclusive control of the top spot in the NFC South. They will now travel to Tennessee to play the Titans for an inter conference match on Sunday, October 29th.
The Titans had dropped their previous two games before the break, including a 24-16 setback in London during Week 6 to the Baltimore Ravens. For the year, Derrick Henry has just accumulated 425 yards and one 100-yard game. The Falcons are now atop the NFC South after a dramatic 16–13 victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the previous weekend. Star rookie Bijan Robinson, the eighth overall choice in this year’s draft, played little because of a headache.
The Titans’ bye week provided an excellent opportunity for this struggling group to attempt and turn things around. The Titans’ superior run defense and the Falcons’ penchant for running the ball give them the advantage, at least in theory. But as we’ve seen on Sunday, Ridder is capable of making some throws as long as he gets time versus a weak pass defense. Desmond Ridder could potentially take advantage of the Titans as they are a passing funnel. Still, it is impossible to overlook Vrabel because he is among the top NFL coaches.
The Falcons prevailed over a division opponent, providing much-needed relief, despite the thrilling game. With forty-five seconds remaining, the Buccaneers matched the score, and it appeared as though overtime might be necessary. Rather, Kyle Pitts and Desmond Ridder had two successful passes for a total of 56 yards, setting up Atlanta’s game-winning field goal. Despite numerous opportunities lost as a result of turnovers, Atlanta earned a hard-fought and much-needed victory in this game. Although they could have won by a larger margin, Desmond Ridder’s strong play in a crucial victory is a huge step forward for the Falcons.
