On Saturday, college football action comes to Joe Aillet Stadium, where the North Texas Mean Green take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. The last time we saw North Texas, they were playing Florida International University. The Mean Green were defeated by a touchdown in the game. The last time we saw Louisiana Tech in action, they were taking on Northwestern State and the Bulldogs went on to win by a huge margin.
In their 2023 season opener against California, the Mean Green struggled. In a 58-21 defeat, North Texas allowed at least 10 points in every period. Stone Earle threw for 174 yards and three touchdowns but also had two picks. Isaiah Johnson rushed for 34 yards, and Jay Maclin led the receivers with 122 yards and two touchdowns on four receptions.
North Texas lost a 20-17 halftime lead over FIU last weekend by allowing 21 unanswered points. The final score was 46–39 against the Green. Earle led the team in rushing with 67 yards, and Chandler Rogers passed for 201 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Topping the receiving stats with 85 yards and a touchdown on just four receptions was Damon Ward.
Louisiana Tech has won three games so far this season. After beating FIU 22-17 on August 26, their next game was a 38-14 loss to SMU. Hank Bachmeier threw for 241 yards and two touchdowns for the Bulldogs, but they lost, and Charvis Thornton led a sluggish Bulldogs rushing attack that gained only 24 yards. With his three receptions, Koby Duru gained 55 yards and a touchdown.
Louisiana Tech blew through Northwestern State 51-21. At halftime, the Bulldogs led 31-14. Bachmeier only threw for 110 yards and a touchdown, but the rushing attack was led by Keith Willis’s 188 yards and two scores on just 13 runs. With his lone reception, Kyle Maxwell led all receivers with 42 yards.
