The second week of the season features a meeting between the UConn Huskies and the Georgia State Panthers at Center Parc Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Following last week’s 10 point loss at the hands of North Carolina State, UConn enters Week 2 having dropped three straight games dating back to last season. Meanwhile, the Georgia State Panthers are hoping to build on a fantastic opening week of the season this coming Saturday.
UConn’s offense had a rough day, managing only 273 yards and 14 scores on just four successful third-down conversions. UConn’s defense was thoroughly outplayed, resulting in 24 points (including 14 in the second half) and nearly 370 yards of offense for NC State.
UConn’s Joseph Fagnano was the game’s best quarterback, throwing for 113 yards on 14 completions. For the Huskies, Victor Rosa rushed the ball 9 times for 99 yards and two touchdowns. For the Huskies, Justin Joly was the major target, as he hauled in four passes for 38 yards, while Devontae Houston added three receptions for 22 yards.
After beating Rhode Island by seven points in week one, the Georgia State Panthers will remain at home for week two. Georgia State’s defense struggled greatly, allowing Rhode Island to score 35 points on 520 total yards, but the Panthers won because they forced two turnovers and kept the Rams scoreless in the first quarter. Georgia State’s offense was spectacular, racking up 42 points (21 in each half) and over 420 yards.
Darren Grainger had a passing and rushing total of 193 yards and two touchdowns on 16 of 20 passing and 12 of 20 rushing, respectively. Marcus Carroll rushed the ball 23 times for 184 yards and three touchdowns, making him the game’s leading rusher. Talique Williams had 52 yards and a touchdown on just two receptions, and Robert Lewis had 97 yards and a touchdown on seven catches.
