The Texas Longhorns had the best second-week performance of any team in the country. Texas defeated Alabama by a significant margin in a game played in Alabama. The victory catapulted the Longhorns to the fourth spot in the most recent AP Poll, solidifying the program’s place among the elite in college football.
Wyoming is not anywhere close to the caliber of Texas, but they have shown the ability to battle with a Big 12 opponent and could keep this within four touchdowns. Texas has far more skill than Wyoming, but they might not be able to beat them by more than four touchdowns.
Both teams have perfect 2-0 records heading into this battle, and each boasts an amazing victory on its resume. As was previously known, Texas upset No. 1 Alabama on the road, but Wyoming also posted a stunning victory. Wyoming defeated Texas Tech in double OT in week one and then beat Portland State by two touchdowns in week two.
Wyoming is clearly outmatched by Texas in terms of talent and there does not appear to be a clear advantage for either team. However, the Cowboys may be able to cover the spread due to a few important circumstances.
Wyoming has a strong roster full of upperclassmen and graduates. Wyoming may not have as much talent as their power-conference opponent, but they should still be able to handle themselves.
The performance of quarterback Andrew Peasley also gives Wyoming hope of covering the spread. Even though Peasley won’t be confused with Quinn Ewers, he’s had a solid season thus far. When facing opponents with more skill than Wyoming’s attack, Peasley’s mobility as quarterback is a huge asset.
If Peasley, who carried the ball 15 times for 68 yards and a touchdown against Texas Tech, can do the same thing against Texas, Wyoming has a chance to keep the score close.
