Louisville has yet to lose a game this college football season. The Cardinals defeated Boston College 56-28 on Saturday at home, following two nail-biting victories over Georgia Tech and Indiana. However, with a game at N.C. State on tap for Friday night, the turnaround time will be shorter than usual for U of L.
The Cardinals won last year’s home matchup against the Wolfpack, 25-10. After picking up its first ACC victory of the season against Virginia (24-21), N.C. State (3-1, 1-0) will host Louisville (2-2, 0-1). Third and fourth in the league are Louisville and North Carolina State.
The Cardinals hosted Murray State on a Thursday before playing at Georgia Tech on a Friday. Jeff Brohm’s Louisville Cardinals are undefeated after four games despite playing a nontraditional schedule building up to Week 5’s showdown at N.C. State.
Though they have had their ups and downs, the Cardinals’ attack has been among the finest and most dynamic in the FBS through the first month of the season. U of L is scoring 43 points per game and gaining 542 yards on average. This includes an average of 304.72 passing yards per game, which is good for 36th in the nation. The club has the ninth-best offensive in the country.
Against N.C. State, the squad will see its toughest test yet. The Wolfpack’s defense is surrendering 21.8 points per game and 326 yards per game despite losing two of its three best defensive players, linebackers Drake Thomas and Isaiah Moore, to the NFL in the spring. In Week 2, the Wolfpack allowed 45 points to No. 9 Notre Dame.
The Cardinals have played two games away from L&N Stadium before Saturday’s game at N.C. State, but this will be their first true road game of the season. U of L found ways to win despite the games being close and featuring mistakes.
