Game Preview

The Cincinnati Bengals will meet the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday in one of the NFL Week 2 Matchups in which both teams will be attempting to get back on track. The Bengals lost their season opener against the Cleveland Browns on the road and are looking to get back on track this week. The Bengals appeared unprepared, as they could only muster a field goal.

The Baltimore Ravens, led by rookie receiver Zay Flowers, put on a good show in their opening game. Flowers, who was drafted 23rd overall after starring at Boston College, had nine catches for 78 yards and was the team leader. The rookie was a frequent target of Lamar Jackson’s, although he never scored a touchdown.

Jackson was not great for the Ravens according to NFL player stats, but he was effective. The quarterback completed 17 of 22 passes for 169 yards. He was unable to pass for a touchdown. The ground attack was successful in scoring a touchdown. The first goal was scored by J.K. Dobbins, while the next two were scored by Justice Hill.

Dobbins suffered an Achilles tear later in the game and now will miss the rest of the season. For Baltimore’s running assault, which gained over 100 yards on the day, Gus Edwards was also key.

The Bengals would give anything to get Week 1 back if they could. The NFL team stats show that Joe Burrow was confused all game long and only completed 14 of 31 passes for 82 yards. Ja’Marr Chase, a wideout with the Bengals, finished with five receptions for 39 yards in the team’s loss. In the upcoming 2023 NFL season, both Burrow and Chase are favorites to win the MVP award.

Also unsuccessful was Joe Mixon, who carried the ball 13 times for 56 yards, while a rotation of five other players shared touches and gained just 19 yards on 7 attempts. There were no turnovers for Cincinnati since they were unable to advance the football.

The Cleveland Browns had an average offensive, but the Cincinnati Bengals’ defense wasn’t terrible. Defending wasn’t the problem, that’s for sure. The Bengals will host the Ravens this weekend and the Rams the next.
