The Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers will meet on Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, after both teams blew out their Week 1 opponents. It’s safe to assume that no one or no team has much time to relax and enjoy themselves in the NFL.
For instance, the Los Angeles Rams started the season with a 30-13 victory over their division rivals, the Seattle Seahawks. Even though they just won, they still have a lot of work ahead of them and won’t have much time to relax. The San Francisco 49ers, another division competitor and potential powerhouse, will be the next opponents in the home opener.
Los Angeles and San Francisco have played many times against each other, and after the 49ers’ 30-7 thrashing of the Steelers on Sunday, San Francisco is looking as formidable as ever. However, with Brock Purdy at quarterback, this 49ers club is unlike any the Rams have faced before. Last year’s games versus the Rams had already been played by the time Purdy took over.
The 49ers have been practically unbeatable since Week 13 of the previous season, when Purdy took over as head coach. Since then, they’ve gone 8-1, with their lone loss coming to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. Even so, San Francisco’s collapse was hastened in no small part by Purdy’s serious injury in the opening minutes of the game.
The 49ers have been successful in recent seasons while the Rams have struggled. In the regular season, San Francisco has won the last eight meetings with Los Angeles, including both meetings last year by at least 15 points. The Rams defeated the 49ers in the 2021 NFC Championship Game, making it the most significant matchup in recent memory.
Despite what the recent record shows, the Rams will face a formidable opponent in the San Francisco 49ers.
