Game Preview
In Week 3, the Patriots travel to face off against the Jets. Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots hit the road for the first time this season looking to get their first win of the year.
In Week 1, they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, and in Week 2, they lost to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday Night Football. The Jets, who had stunned the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football, lost to the Cowboys in Week 2.
Only 37 points have been scored in the first two games for the New England Patriots. That’s hardly a lot, but their rivals, the Jets, can only boast 32.
After two games, the Patriots rank at the bottom of the NFL in rushing. With only 75 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries, Rhamondre Stevenson is struggling to get going. Since his transfer, Ezekiel Elliott has done little to boost the offense.
Mac Jones will keep his place in the starting lineup as quarterback. The quarterback has thrown four touchdown passes, including two to Hunter Henry, but he has also thrown two picks.
As the season goes, the Patriots will need to try various strategies to give Jones more room to maneuver. The New England Patriots will play the Dallas Cowboys on the road next week, and then they will welcome the New Orleans Saints at Gillette Stadium on October 8.
On the other hand, the New York Jets’ situation is not dissimilar to that of the New England Patriots. The Jets are using a backup quarterback, which is the key difference here. Wilson was not at his best in the Week 2 loss, when he threw three interceptions. So far this season, Wilson has only thrown for 310 yards and two touchdowns in the NFL.
The Jets are last in the NFL in passing offense and 12th in running offense. Breece Hall only had four touches in the loss despite his 136 yards in two games.
This game is the first of three consecutive home games against tough opponents: the New York Jets welcome the Kansas City Chiefs the next week, and then the Philadelphia Eagles arrive on October 15.
