In an AFC South clash, CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans will travel to Jacksonville to take on Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars. The Texans also had the inspiring tale of John Metchie III returning to the field after overcoming leukemia to make his debut.
The addition of wide receiver Calvin Ridley has been a boon to the Jacksonville offense. After putting up four touchdowns in a Week 1 victory against the Colts, the Jaguars’ offense stalled against the Chiefs’ defense and they went scoreless in Week 2.
CJ Stroud has performed admirably in his first two starts, even though he has yet to record his first victory. There have been no interceptions in his 313 passing yards per game. The Texans have a good foundation upon which to expand their success, which is a good sign coming into this game.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, the offensive struggles of the Jaguars can be traced, at least in part, to the play of running back Travis Etienne. With only 3.9 yards per carry on the season so far, their passing game will have to handle some of the offensive load. Etienne’s production is crucial for the Jaguars’ offense to get going again.
It’s devastating that the offense wasn’t able to take advantage of the excellent performance by the defense. Nonetheless, an early season loss by a hair’s breadth against the reigning champions shouldn’t be taken too seriously.
Jacksonville must swiftly bounce back against a division rival. The Jaguars will not be taken seriously as a top-tier club until they defeat the Chiefs, but they can show that they are still in the running by annihilating a weak Texans team.
