NFL Game of the Year: Commanders vs Eagles Week 4 Early Preview

August 31, 2023

Commanders vs Eagles (W4)

The Philadelphia Eagles will host one of their NFC East rivals the Washington Commanders on week 4 of the 2023 NFL Season. The game will take place on October 1st at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

One of the biggest news during the offseason for the Commanders was the NFL finally forcing Dan Snyder to finally sell the franchise. After Josh Harris and his investing partners, the Philadelphia 76ers owners, acquired the Commanders the team’s culture underwent a total transformation. Ron Rivera, the head coach, may find himself in hot water as an entirely fresh ownership group comes to frame. During his inaugural campaign in Washington, Rivera led the Commanders into the playoffs, however in his subsequent 3 stints there, he hasn’t managed to win more than 8 matches.

The Commanders are starting again at quarterback in 2022 following how the Wentz venture went haywire. Sam Howell, the 5th-round selection from the previous year, continues to be the focal point of attention for Washington, but Jacoby Brissett, who just had the finest campaign of his NFL career while playing for the Browns, will contend for the position of starter. Whoever starts at quarterback will have access to a comparable arsenal of tools that Wentz did, but Washington’s system is going to appear quite distinct. With Andrew Norwell’s fate with the Commanders in doubt, Gates and Wylie are expected to start while Sam Cosmi will switch from right tackle to right guard.

The Philadelphia Eagles will be attempting to win Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2023 after losing the previous year to the Kansas City Chiefs by a razor-thin margin. With a massive new $255 million contract, quarterback Jalen Hurts will need to show that he is worthy of it because the Eagles lost several key players this summer.

The Eagles dominated the NFL in 2022, going 14-3 overall, but they could have performed more impressively if Hurts weren’t out of two contests due to a shoulder injury. By most standards, they were an outstanding force, finishing 3rd in terms of offensive yards and points scored. The only instance in which the defense displayed vulnerability versus running backs occurred when Jordan Davis got hurt. The defense ranked 1st in passing yards permitted and 1st overall in sacks.
