Game Preview
Following their shocking Week 1 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Cleveland Browns will face another team from the AFC North in Week 2.
In the first installment of the Battle of Ohio, the Browns shocked the visiting Cincinnati Bengals, winning 24–3. The game took place in the rain and slope along the shores of Lake Erie. The 1 point spread in favor of Cleveland paid off, and the total went Under (46). RB Nick Chubb rushed for over 100 yards for the first time in his career.
Since their 1999 move back to Cleveland, this squad has never had a 2-0 opening. Bill Belichick‘s third year as head coach of the Browns was the last time the team started 2-0. Cleveland’s fortunes turned for the worse that year, and the team finished the year at 7-9, but this time around feels very different.
They didn’t simply have a routine victory in Week 1. It was a crushing defeat for the two-time defending AFC North champions. Even though they play a divisional foe in Week 2, a trip to Pittsburgh is never a cakewalk. Perhaps it’s too soon to talk of a run to the AFC Championship, but a postseason berth seems certain.
The Steelers lost 30-7 at home to the visiting San Francisco 49ers, and unfortunately for them, Pittsburgh never led in the game.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin’s team fell behind 20-0 before scoring, and the team ultimately resorted to playing it safe by passing the ball for the majority of the second half against a formidable defense.
There have been 24 road games played by the Browns in Pittsburgh since the team relocated back to Cleveland in 1999. Only in one of the 24 games the Browns were the favorites, and it was in December of 2019 when they were favored by a single point.
