On Thursday, the Philadelphia Eagles welcome the Minnesota Vikings at Lincoln Financial Field for Week 2 of the NFL season, giving the birds a chance to open the year 2-0 for the second year in a row. In a game that had been anticipated for months, the Eagles finally got off to a hot start in the first quarter on Sunday in Foxborough, jumping out to a 16-0 lead. However, they barely pulled off the victory, and have now won 10 of their last 11 regular season games away from home.
The Eagles’ inability to get to Patriots quarterback Mac Jones for more than two sacks in week one raised serious doubts about the team’s ability to be as dominant along the line of scrimmage as they were in 2022, when they led the league in team sacks (70).
They averaged less than four yards per carry in their season opener, which was a major cause for concern after losing the league’s fifth-leading rusher from 2022, Miles Sanders, in the off-season to the Carolina Panthers.

On Sunday, Kevin O’Connell’s squad turned the ball over three times, and it seemed to destroy any momentum they had built up. The Vikings fumbled deep in their own territory once, and then threw an interception and lost the ball again when they were pushing into the red zone.
The Vikings rushed for just 41 yards as a team against the Bucs, and they finished with the fifth-fewest rushing yards per game in 2022, so it seems likely that this will be another area of weakness for them in 2023.
