Game Preview
In Week 12, the New Orleans Saints (5-5) and Atlanta Falcons (4-6) square off at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on November 26.
The Saints were defeated 27-19 by the Minnesota Vikings in their most recent game. After suffering a concussion in the third quarter, quarterback Derek Carr was replaced by quarterback Jamies Winston, who completed 122 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. This season, the Saints’ defense has been quite excellent overall, but their offensive production hasn’t kept up with it. With 21.4 points generated per game, New Orleans is allowing an average of 19.8 points per game. Carr’s status to play this week is uncertain because he has still not been cleared of a concussion. Jameis Winston will make his 1st start of the regular season if Derek is declared ineligible. Anyway, with Atlanta handing the ball over 1.6 times a game, the Saints are depending on their defense to perform. Conversely, New Orleans is eighth in the NFL with an average of 1.8 takeaways per game.
In Week 10, Atlanta fell to the Arizona Cardinals 25–23 for their third consecutive loss. In the second half, starting quarterback Taylor Heinicke left the game due to a hamstring injury, and QB Desmond Ridder took over. With 2:33 remaining in the game, Ridder scored on a 9-yard touchdown run to put Atlanta ahead 23–22. However, Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray drove the Cardinals 70 yards in order to set up K Matt Prater’s game-winning kick. The Falcons will turn back to Ridder now that Heinicke is doubtful; perhaps he has already dealt with his problems over the extended break. Running back Bijan Robinson, in the meantime, may see a significant workload once more following his 22 carries for 95 yards and a score against the Cardinals. The Falcons have struggled with passing, averaging 204.9 yards every game with 9 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.
