Acrisure Stadium hosts an NFL game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. The 49ers went 1-2 in the preseason, with their most recent loss being against the Chargers. In exhibition action, Pittsburgh went 3-0 and won their last game, a shutout of the Falcons.
The 49ers kicked off their preseason schedule against the Raiders. The final score was 34-7, with San Francisco down 27-7 at halftime. In the loss, QB Trey Lance threw for 112 yards and a touchdown. The 49ers beat the Broncos 21-20 in the second game thanks to 18 second-half scores. Ronnie Bell finished with 114 yards receiving on the day.
San Francisco’s recent losing streak began in August against the Chargers. In a final score of 23-12, the 49ers allowed points in each of the four periods. Sam Darnold completed 7 of 10 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown, and Tyrion Davis-Price ran 10 times for 61 yards. With a single catch for 35 yards, Brandon Aiyuk led all receivers.
The Steelers, however, were undefeated in preseason play this year. The first half ended with Pittsburgh leading Tampa Bay 17-7, and they went on to win 27-17. In that game, QB Mason Rudolph threw for 132 yards and a touchdown. Mitch Trubisky threw for 78 yards and a touchdown as the Steelers beat the Bills 27-15 in the second game.
Pittsburgh kept it rolling against the Falcons. The Steelers scored a decisive 24-0 in the first half of their game. Kenny Pickett completed 4 of 4 passes for 86 yards, and Anthony McFarland rushed 10 times for 55 yards and a touchdown. George Pickens led all receivers with one catch for 35 yards.
Even though it’s tough to discern anything from preseason games, Pittsburgh’s final numbers seem quite decent. In an effort to control the clock last week against the Falcons, the Steelers racked up 311 total yards (175 rushing). Even better, the Steelers committed zero turnovers and had a time of possession of 33:49 on the strength of only five penalties.
