The NFL’s Week 9 kicks off with the Green Bay Packers hosting the Los Angeles Rams in a win-or-go-home matchup between two winning NFC clubs.
The Rams have dropped their last two matches, 43-20 to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday before falling to the Pittsburgh Packers on Monday. In the 23-point defeat, quarterback Matthew Stafford broke his thumb, and it is unclear how he will fare going forward. Third place in the NFC West belongs to the Rams. Due to a UCL sprain in his right thumb, starter Matthew Stafford is questionable for Sunday’s contest. However, head coach Sean McVay stated that the Rams would be “silly” if they did not have backup plans ready in case Stafford is sidelined.
The Packers began the season 2-1 but have now lost four straight games. They gained just 270 yards of total offense against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, losing 24-10. With Jordan Love as quarterback, they are currently third in the NFC North and are rapidly dropping out of the postseason picture. The Los Angeles Rams are 3-5 on this campaign going into the match.
Since 2006, the Rams and Packers have faced off a total of ten times. In those matches, Green Bay compiled an outstanding 8-2 record. The Packers defeated the Rams 24–12 at home in their latest encounter last December. The Packers have defeated the Rams 3-0 at Lambeau Field in each of the previous three meetings. Since assuming charge in Green Bay, Packers manager Matt LaFleur has a 3-0 record versus Sean McVay, the coach of the Rams.
The Rams need this victory after losing their previous two games in order to stay in contention for a postseason berth. One could argue that Green Bay also need this, however the Packers needed as well to defeat the Vikings, and they fell short by the score of 24-10.
