When the Lions and Packers meet on Thursday Night Football during NFL Week 4, it will be for bragging rights in the NFC North. Lambeau Field hosts a matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings, who are both 2-1, and the Chicago Bears, who are both 0-3.
Detroit easily beat the Falcons 20-6 last Sunday, and Green Bay came back to beat the Saints 18-17. Both clubs play in the NFC South. In Week 18 of the 2022 season, when Green Bay desperately needed a win against Detroit to make the playoffs, the Packers and Lions clashed for the final time. The Packers’ record dropped to 8-9 after the Lions’ 23-20 victory.
Jared Goff, quarterback for Detroit, leads an attack that averages 270 passing yards (seventh in the NFL) and 112 rushing yards (eleventh). The Packers are ranked 19th in passing offense and 25th in rushing with 93 yards per game.
After a dominating performance in which they recorded seven sacks (including two from Aidan Hutchinson), the Lions’ defense has good reason to be confident. The 2022 Lions dominated their division, going 6-0 against the spread and winning four of eight games in Green Bay.
Goff is 4-2 against Green Bay in his career and is seventh in the NFL in passing yards (819). In the previous week’s game, rookie tight end Sam LaPorta scored his first career touchdown on a 45-yard reception, and veteran receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown recorded his second consecutive 100-yard game.
David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, both rookies, have run for a total of 280 yards (4.1 yards per carry). Since the beginning of last season, Detroit is 14-6 ATS and is 7-2 ATS after a win.
The Jordan Love era in Green Bay has gotten off to a terrific start, and they’ll get to play in front of their passionate fanbase in prime time. Last week, Love led the team to a comeback victory by passing for 259 yards while evading pressure and making only a few mistakes.
On Sunday, he threw his first interception after seven touchdown passes and three sacks. Love is second on the squad in rushing yards, with 74, behind only A.J. Dillon (107). Aaron Jones’s hamstring injury has slowed him down, but he still has a chance to play again.
