On Sunday, NFL action moves to Denver for a matchup between the Broncos and the Commanders at Empower Field at Mile High. Washington faced Carolina in Week 1, the final score was 8-4 in favor of the Commanders. Denver’s 2023 season kicked off against the Raiders and they lost a heartbreaker by a single point in the game.
Even though things weren’t perfect for the Washington Commanders in Week 1, the victory was more important than the quality of play. While it’s common for teams to show signs of rust and lackluster execution in the first games of the regular season, Ron Rivera’s ability to work with and mold a great roster will be crucial to the team’s success this year and beyond.
The Commanders’ upcoming road game against the Denver Broncos doesn’t seem easy. Even though the Superdome isn’t exactly known for its friendly crowds, this game, Sean Payton’s first as head coach, promises to be electric.
The Broncos are stacked with talent on offense and defense, making up for the disadvantage of playing at Mile High Stadium’s higher altitude. They suffered a heartbreaking opening-day defeat at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders and want nothing more than to make amends for it.
By no means is this going to be a simple task. The Commanders may not have won, but their dominant defensive performance against the Arizona Cardinals gives them hope for the rest of the season.
As for Denver, they played in three preseason games this year and won only once. Before beating the Rams 41-0 in a rout, the Broncos fell 18-17 to the Cardinals and 21-20 to the 49ers. Denver led the Raiders 13-10 at halftime of their season opener last Sunday.
However, the Broncos lost 17-16 after falling down 7-3 in the fourth quarter. Russell Wilson threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns on 27 completions out of 34 attempts in Week 1 for Denver. Both Samaje Perine and Adam Trautman caught four passes for over thirty yards, while Javonte Williams rushed for 52 yards on 13 carries.
