On December 16 at Ford Field, the Detroit Lions (9-4) and Denver Broncos (7-6) will play.

Quarterback Jared Goff threw 20 of 35 passes for 161 yards when facing the Bears, registering a touchdown and a pair of interceptions. Although it wasn’t good, Goff has the ability to perform substantially better this coming game. Unfortunately, in Week 16, he and his offensive counterparts are up against a very strong defense. The recent success of the Broncos defense is concerning for the Lions, as they have a dismal record versus these opponents. This season, the Lions are averaging 27.8 points per game at home. They have 7 times this season produced a minimum of 26 points in a game, regardless of the venue. During their six most recent matches, 4 of those incidents have occurred.
The Broncos, who had a 1-5 start, have won 6 of their last 7 matches and most recently defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 24-7 on the road. The Broncos had 4 games where they scored 21 points or less as they started their campaign with a 1-5 record. They have a recent 6-1 record and have produced no fewer than 24 points on four occasions. They also had to play against some formidable defenses, such as the Cleveland Browns, against whom they scored 29 points. The Lions’ offensive prowess at home may require the Broncos to throw more than normal in order to stay up with them. Denver’s running attack is just good for 102 yards a game on average. Although Javonte Williams lacks breakaway speed, he is a strong interior runner. With 10 touchdowns and more than 13 yards per catch, Courtland Sutton is without a doubt Wilson’s best target. Denver should have opportunities for Sutton to get downfield passes against the exploitable Lions secondary if they can create some sort of ground game.
