NFL Week 9 action takes place between the Indianapolis Colts and the Carolina Panthers. The Colts have suffered three consecutive losses, all in shootouts. Indianapolis has played effectively with the ball in those matches, but they have also made nine mistakes. The Colts’ inexperienced cornerbacks have been exploited by opposing passers. The Panthers recently defeated the Houston Texans 15–13 in the final seconds to earn their first victory of the year. Bryce Young, the first overall pick in the draft, had his most productive performance to date, completing 71% of his attempted passes for 235 yards including a touchdown.
It’s been a difficult year for the Carolina team, to put it mildly. The Panthers struggled to find any offensive consistency over their opening 6 matches of the season. This year, Carolina has only scored 13 touchdowns, 2 via throwing and 9 through running. While conceding 25, 10 through passing and 14 through running, in an otherwise dismal defensive performance. The positive development is that Carolina has stopped being a winless state. In their previous game, the Panthers defeated the Texans 15–13 with a dramatic field goal. In the triumph, Bryce Young passed for 235 yards and a touchdown, and Chuba Hubbard gained 28 yards on the ground. Adam Thielen led the receivers with 8 grabs for 72 yards.
The Colts’ season hasn’t been easy at this point, yet there have been some encouraging moments along their path. Indianapolis was 3-2 at the beginning of the match but has subsequently dropped 3 in a row. With an additional match, the Colts were able to score a lot overall, scoring 22 touchdowns in total, 12 running and 10 passing. On the reverse side, however, Indy has allowed 25 touchdowns, 9 passing and 15 running. The Colts trailed the Saints by a single point at halftime when they faced off last Sunday. But, Indianapolis lost 38-27 after scoring only a single touchdown the remainder of the game. Jonathan Taylor gained 95 yards on 12 carries in the passing game, while Gardner Minshew contributed 213 pass yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interceptions. Josh Downs also had 7 grabs for 72 yards.
