The Seagulls have started the new season off strong, picking up six points from their first two league games. This comes after they defied the odds on their way to a top-six finish in the previous campaign. A week after thrashing Wolves 4-1 at Molineux, Roberto De Zerbi’s swashbuckling squad disposed of Luton Town with ease in their season opener.
This weekend, Brighton will host West Ham United at their home stadium seeking to extend their hot start to the season with a victory. Despite breaking a 50-year trophy drought with last year’s Europa League title, the London Stadium had a sour preseason vibe as fans worried about David Moyes’ job security and a lack of transfer activity.
The mood in east London has been buoyed by a 1-1 opening day draw against Bournemouth and a 3-1 victory over Chelsea last weekend as the team prepares to travel to the south coast this coming weekend.
Last week, West Ham needed a strong defensive effort to beat Chelsea at home. Aguerd scored first, but Chelsea responded quickly, and the clubs headed into halftime tied at 1. Antonio put West Ham back in the lead, and after Aguerd was sent off in the 67th minute, the tables were flipped.
The Hammers survived a late Chelsea onslaught thanks to a penalty kick from Paqueta. While West Ham will be without Nayef Aguerd due to suspension, the team is otherwise healthy and ready to travel to Brighton.
Last time out, Brighton easily defeated Wolves at Molineux. Mitoma scored the game’s first goal after 15 minutes, assisted by Estupinan. Later in the second half, the defender scored to make it 2-0, and March added a third goal for the Seagulls not long after.
March scored again in the 55th minute, and despite Wolves getting one back, the game was over by then. It appears likely that Jakub Moder will miss this weekend’s game due to a knee injury.
