The forthcoming London Derby featuring Arsenal and Fulham is scheduled to take place at the Emirates Stadium. Despite their lackluster performance, the Gunners have managed to maintain an undefeated record after two rounds.
Meanwhile, Fulham is experiencing turmoil with the departure of Aleksandar Mitrovic and a win and a loss apiece. To clarify, he has already left. The Gunners are huge favorites to win since they have a history of success versus the underdog Cottagers.
Against Crystal Palace last weekend, Arsenal came out on top with a 1-0 victory. Gunners left Selhurst without left back Takehiro Tomiyasu after he was sent off in a tough match. Arteta’s situation was already hampered by Jurrien Timber’s injury, and Monday’s events further made matters worse.
They started off with a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest, but slacked off in the last minutes, allowing the visitors to create chances and perhaps tie the game.
When playing at home, Arteta’s squad is formidable and starts games aggressively, but this is not the case when traveling. The loss of Gabriel Jesus remains a major setback. In the first two rounds, both Nketiah and Saha performed admirably.
Without Mitrovic, Fulham’s offense relies heavily on the speed with which Raul Jimenez can learn and adjust to the team’s strategy. The Cottagers reluctantly agreed to let the Serb travel for Saudi Arabia in search of riches.
Fulham was blown out by Brentford at Craven Cottage after defeating Everton 1-0 on the road. The Bees were superior and won the game 3-0, annihilating their opponents.
The most significant issue was Fulham’s weak midfield, which was unable to keep up with the visitors. We think the Cottagers will need some time to adjust to their new normal without Mitro, the group’s spiritual leader.
That Fulham hasn’t beaten Arsenal in the last ten meetings is a particularly ominous trend for the Cottagers. The Gunners won both of last year’s matchups against the Cottagers, 2-1 at the Emirates and 0-3, respectively.
