This weekend, Cagliari will visit Bologna to take on another squad still searching for its first win of the Serie A season. Fans of both sides are hopeful that Saturday’s game would give them their first win of the season after opening records of a draw and a loss.
With only one goal scored in two games, Thiago Motta‘s squad clearly has some work to do in that department. However, they’ve had a challenging start to the season, with games against Milan and Juventus; against the Bianconeri, a single goal was enough to get a point.
Bologna will be able to focus much more on offense if they are able to get a result against the Old Lady on Saturday. Marko Arnautovic’s departure to Inter has made Riccardo Orsolini Motta’s team’s top scorer, even as newcomer Sydney van Hooijdonk adjusts.
The game on Saturday could be decided by a single goal, given the visitors are yet to score this season. Evidence abounds from previous matches between the two sides, with four of the last five victories coming by a single goal.
Cagliari played Torino to a scoreless draw on the road in their season opener, but were blown out by Inter on Monday night. Consequently, they may have their best chance to score this season in their upcoming trip to the Renato Dall’Ara. Cagliari, who have Leonardo Pavoletti, a seasoned veteran, leading the line, may continue to have trouble scoring goals this Saturday.
Most of the starting lineup from last weekend’s 1-1 draw away at Juventus is expected to remain intact, with Nicolas Dominguez being the most likely change. Last weekend, Jesper Karlsson made an appearance off the bench, but he’ll be aiming to get more playing time this time around.
The lack of a goal for Claudio Ranieri’s team this season may prompt him to make changes this weekend. New signing Edor Shomurodov might start up front, and Simone Scuffet would love to make his debut for the team as well.
